Welcome to Blackbourne u3a

Notice of AGM

Please find attached the notice and agenda for the AGM on Monday 3rd March 2025.

Last year, at our AGM, the Committee asked Members to vote on changes to our Constitution. This was in recognition of the difficulties experienced by many u3a's including our own, in recruiting to all committee posts. While the wording was understood to be accepted at national level, this proved not to be the case once submitted to them for approval.

Our Chair, Liz, had discussions with the Third Age Trust to agree acceptable wording for the proposed resolution, which you will find on the attached agenda.

Also attached are the minutes of the 2024 AGM.

A nomination form is also attached.  There was no response to the email regarding the need for new committee members.  Please seriously consider if you could be put your name forward for nomination.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, our Lecture Secretaries have had to stand down and so our u3a also needs this role to be filled.

Remember, u3a is run by members for members, and must have the requisite committee to be able to continue.

Completed nomination forms are to be returned by Monday 24th February ,  to

Sue Adams, Blackbourne u3a Secretary, Newhaven, Ixworth Road, Thurston, BSE  IP31 3QE

Nomination Form

Our u3a is based in the Blackbourne area of Suffolk and our membership of over 500 live mainly in the villages between Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket, although there is no geographical restriction. Our members come from the larger villages of Thurston, Elmswell, Great Barton, Woolpit and Ixworth and at least 60 smaller villages, and also some of the neighbouring towns.

Membership is open to all ages although we aim to provide activities for those in the "third age", ie retired or no longer in full time employment.

Our activities are wide and varied and include monthly lectures, interest groups, garden and theatre visits and holidays. All activities are open to couples and singles equally. Members also receive regular email and newsletters highlighting future and recent activities.

A programme of lecture meetings and interest groups, together with membership cards/badges are posted out to members in July each year.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the Blackbourne u3a, further details are under the Membership tab on the Menu Bar.

There are over 1000 u3a groups nationally and the main theme is self-help. There are no paid teachers and all activities and groups are run by members sharing their own skills and passions.

We have lots of Interest Groups and are looking to start more, so if you have a passion to do or learn something, join us and we will do our best to help you.
