Lackford Lakes December 2015

We spent a very enjoyable morning wandering around Lackford Lakes. Unfortunately Sheila and Sally were unable to join us at Lackford but they joined us later for the planning meeting and the Christmas meal. It was good that Barry could join us for the walk round and the meal. The rain held off and the temperature was reasonable. A total of 36 species were seen not including the 'Yellow Crane'! or my incredible Wren/Weasel Hybrid! Here is a list of the species seen:-

Siskin, Treecreeper, Robin, Long Tailed Tit, Sparrowhawk, Mallard,Great Tit, Tufted Duck, Gadwall, Black Headed Gull, Canada Goose Carrion Crow, Mute Swan, Cormorant, Chaffinch, Grey Heron,Moorhen, Little Egret, Coot, Teal, Greylag Goose, Goldcrest Kingfisher, Blue Tit, Wood Pigeon, Pochard, Goldeneye, Shoveler Little Grebe, Lesser Black Backed Gull, Great Crested Grebe Nuthatch, Egyptian Goose, Lapwing, Magpie, Marsh Tit.

One of the highlights was watching a Kingfisher fly from perch to perch looking for fish to catch.

From Lackford we proceeded to Bury Golf Club where we held our planning meeting for next year's trips; this was followed by an excellent Christmas meal. Our thanks go to Sheila for organizing this meal.

A great day out, good company, good birding and a great meal.
